Shopify Plus Merchants - How to Refund Store Credit by Issuing a Gift Card?
Friendly return policies always pave the way for long-term customer relationships. But for businesses, it is significant to decide whether they want to refund to customers’ original payment mode or issue a gift card.
The benefit of issuing a gift card is that it indirectly puts pressure on customers to purchase from your store again. AfterShip Returns Center lets Shopify Plus users refund store credit in the form of a gift card. Here are the steps:
✅ Make sure you already have installed the public app of AfterShip Returns Center before proceeding with the custom app development process (explained below)
✅ Activate the gift card feature in the Shopify admin
✅ Contact Shopify support to enable the gift card API for your account. Make sure that Shopify team confirms the enabling of the gift card API. For example:

Go to your Shopify store’s ‘Apps’ section > Click on ‘Develop apps’
Click on ‘Allow custom app development’
Hit the ‘Create an app’ button and give your app a name to create it successfully
Click on ‘Configure Admin API scopes’ and then switch to ‘Configuration’ to select ‘Admin API integration’

Now, provide the required permission for Gift cards and Orders (both read and write) like this:

'Save' your changes and then click on the ‘Install app’ button to add your custom app
Now, you will automatically be switched to the ‘API credentials’ section, where you need to unveil your ‘Admin API access token’ to copy it

Note: You can see your ‘Admin API access token’ only once. After that, it will not be possible for you to check it.
